My Work

My work is based completely on how I feel in any given moment.   I may go into the studio with the intension of making one specific type of pot for a specific use but I never go into the studio with the intension of producing 10 of these or 20 of those.   I do love making pottery with precision but not precision in terms of making one thing look like exactly like the next one.   I believe that’s the essence of work being handmade and one of a kind.   Sure many artists feel everything they make is one of a kind because of natural flaws but if the intension of replication was there from the beginning it’s only one of a kind due to man’s inadequate abilities to make things perfect.   To me that’s not one of a kind enough.

I find the most rewarding part of being a potter is that people are using my pots for day to day rituals.   I make pottery that has many different feels in order to appeal to the hands of everyone rather than just making things that fit me.   I absolutely love hearing from happy owners of my work that can’t wake up without having a cup of coffee or tea in one of my mugs.
